Way Back Wednesday: Will Loring and a brand-new fire engine

September 25, 2024 Geri Duff

This is Will Loring who became a call firefighter on Engine 4 in 1932 at the South Hingham Constitution Fire Station. He was hired as a permanent member of the Hingham Fire Department in 1946. In 1947, Engine 4 was replaced with a new Mack fire engine and named Engine 7. Can you imagine how he felt being able to have his picture with the new truck before the number was painted on the door? Will retired in 1969. The truck was changed to Engine 8 and moved to the West Hingham Torrent Station and later traded in for a new engine in 1972. Today the engine is in the Trolley Museum at Warehouse Point in Connecticut. This photo is from the Bare Cove Fire Museum Archives.
