The 8th grade Raiders showed definite toughness in beating a physical Brockton team on Sunday to remain unbeaten. QB Hudson Garrity put on quite an offensive display by throwing for 4 touchdowns and running for two more as the stingy defense continually shut down Brockton’s threats.

A sack by Cam Forger and an interception by Rhett Shevlin halted Brockton’s opening drive. QB Garrity mishandled the snap from Brooks Johnson but turned it into a big play by scrambling across the field for 42 yards setting up a first and goal. Running back Evan Tomasello took the pitch from Garrity and ran it in for a touchdown and the early 6-0 lead. The defense anticipated pass plays by Brockton as Mason Aframe and Tomasello tackled the receivers and Johnny Heller broke up a pass across the middle. A bad snap on the punt was recovered by Denny Costello and the Raiders were working with great field position at the 21 yard line. QB Garrity promptly found his steady target Shamus Devine on a slant pass for the touchdown to go up 12-0. The defensive line of Frank Cavagnaro, Denny Costello, Brayden Huber and Will Berkeley took on the linemen allowing linebackers Mason Aframe, Cam Forger and Rhett Shevlin to tackle the running backs and force a punt. QB Garrity burst through a hole created by Brooks Johnson and Duncan Wilder for a 22 yard gain that set up a slant pass to Rhett Shevlin who stiff armed his way into the end zone for an 18-0 lead closing the first quarter.

On defense Ryan Fernquist, Sam Godfrey and Ryan Crespi made stopping tackles, but the Brockton RB slipped through tackles from Carter Karis, Mickey Syp and Grant Riordan to dive into the end zone for a score. On the ensuing drive Hingham fumbled the ball back to Brockton deep in their own territory. Not letting Brockton gain momentum, Shamus Devine made a crushing tackle to force a quick three and out. Reading the single coverage mismatch at wide receiver, QB Garrity threw a 62 yard pass to Cole Shevlin for the touchdown. On the extra point QB Neil Deininger threw a slant pass to Andrew Nolan that was stopped just shy of the goal line resulting in a 24-7 lead. The defense held strong with tackles by Grant Riordan, Daniel Lovendale, Wes Govoni, Coen Melgoza, Jack Hart and Jordan Owens- Ayala but Brockton managed to bull their way into the endzone for a score making it a 24-14 game. One play later, Hudson Garrity responded by scrambling 65 yards for a quick TD. The second half ended with QB Garrity connecting for a second time with Shamus Devine in the corner of the end zone to go up 36-14.

The second half started like the first, with John Peterson breaking up a pass, Ryan Crespi, Coen Melgoza and Duncan Wilder forcing a turnover on downs. The offensive line led by Esra Everly, Will Taylor, Grant Riordan, Braden Oun and Asher Ellis created a pocket for QB Neil Deininger to pass to Andrew Nolan for a first down. After a turnover on downs Brockton ran around the end for a TD tightening the score at 36-21. Once again Hingham responded with a quick 31 yard TD pass from Garrity to Rhett Shevlin and a 42-21 lead. Capping off the days barrage of scoring, Garrity threw strike passes to Brayden Huber and Jack Hart before shedding a tackle and rattling off a 47 yard TD run. On the point after QB Deininger tossed a screen pass to Andrew Nolan who was stopped inches short of the goal line as time expired.
