In the center of this picture is Gorham Cross and Bob Jackson (both in civilian dress) taking leave from the Hingham Fire Department to join the Armed Services in 1943. Because both men were members of the Ladder Company they were picked up with Hingham’s 1940 Seagrave Ladder truck on November 4th at 6 AM and driven to the East Weymouth train station as the first leg of their trip to Fort Devens. Accompanying them were Chief Kimball, Lieut. Del Hamlin, Capt. Ernie Loring, Gene Botting, Chet Linscott, Fred Deering, J. I. Botting, Bill “Pa” Hatch, Capt. Alfred Linscott, Arnold England, George Terry, George Cowing, Fran Wright and Bill Hatch Jr. The photo is from the Bare Cove Fire Museum.
