Hingham Recreation Department has been awarded $250,000 in a Municipal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Improvement Grant from the Massachusetts Office of Disability to improve access to all activities on the Cronin complex behind Town Hall.
The competitive grant, the maximum offered by the Commonwealth for municipal ADA improvements, will be used to make the Cronin complex more accessible to all residents through 3,500 linear feet of connected series of new accessible pathways and 350 linear feet of ramp work linking the fields, courts and community playground, and parking together. The grant leverages $25,000 in funds committed to the project by the Hingham Recreation Commission.
The complex includes the Cronin Baseball Field, Soccer Field, Running Track, Outdoor Volleyball court, the newly renovated Basketball court, the Haley Baseball Field, the Community Playground, tennis courts, the outdoor hockey rink, and the Recreation Barn. Work is expected to be completed in the spring of 2025.
“Creating a more accessible complex will not only be a great benefit for Hingham residents of all abilities, but it will also maximize the potential of this essential active recreation space,” said Mark Thorell, Hingham’s Director of Recreation.
