When Hinghamites from seven different groups join forces, the result is putting a smile on 160 veterans’ faces.
For the 9th consecutive year, the first Friday in December was veteran gift bag assembly day. Volunteers from the Girls Scouts, South Shore SNAP, The Soldiers Care Package Program at the Baptist Church, The Hingham Vets Council, BC High and the Hingham HS Vets Appreciation Club and Select Boards Member Boll Ramsey met at the old light plant on Cushing Street to assemble 160 gift bags. The bags were filled with personal care products, gloves, hats, socks, towels, treats and plenty of candy. All of the product was purchased on a wholesale basis with donations from several generous donors.
Once assembled, The HHS Vets Appreciation Club members delivered 24 bags to needy veterans in Hingham and the Veterans Services Officers from Hull and Cohasset picked up another 24 bags for distribution. The remaining 112 bags were trucked to Boston for distribution at the New England Center and Home for Veterans on Court Street in Boston.
The South Shore SNAP community service event was another great success, all volunteers had a great time and 160 veterans were all appreciated their gifts.
