At Linden Ponds, an Erickson Senior Living community in Hingham, Mass., team members enjoy more than just a job. They also enjoy opportunities and support for achieving individual career goals including further education, professional development, growth opportunities, and a healthy work-life balance.
This year, each Erickson Senior Living community hosted a Career Expo for current team members providing a unique opportunity to meet department ambassadors, learn about current and upcoming career opportunities, map out a personal development path, and access skill-building opportunities to fuel professional growth.
“Our goal is to provide our talented and diverse team members with a meaningful work experience that matches their interests and goals,” said Nicole Walker, Chief Human Resources Officer for Erickson Senior Living. “This is why we created the 2024 Internal Career Expo Series across the enterprise. As a growth company with a bright future, we strive to be an employer of choice by providing our team members with the resources to cultivate the career they personally desire at Erickson Senior Living.”
In March 2020, looking for a career change, Terrence Slattery, a catering manager in Boston, applied for an Assistant General Manager of Dining at Linden Ponds.
“When I visited for my interview, I was amazed by the size and beauty of the campus. Everyone I met was friendly and enthusiastic. Following my interview, I was invited to stay and observe the beginning of dinner service in the Fireside Dining Room. As the residents began arriving for dinner, there was a joyful energy among the residents and staff. I knew this would be a great place to work.”
Terrence was hired and served Linden Ponds as a member of the dining services team. Two years later, with a young family, he met with his manager in search of new job opportunities, those that offered a more traditional, 9 to 5 schedule.
“My entire career had been in hospitality and food service and I didn’t know how to make such a drastic change,” he says. “I spoke with a Linden Ponds Human Resources Manager and she recommended I explore other opportunities at Linden Ponds outside of dining.”
With his managers full support, Terrence applied for, and was hired as an Accounting Office Coordinator.
“When I was hired for the role, I knew Erickson Senior Living offered unique growth opportunities that wouldn’t be available elsewhere,” says Terrence. “As a member of the Finance Department, I learned about new aspects of the community. I also enjoyed the opportunity to assist the Financial Analyst and help with other special projects. My experience with the dining team carried with me into this role where I continued to learn and grow.”
A year later, Terrence felt ready, and supported, to seek out a management position. Last December, he joined Linden Ponds’ General Services team as the Customer Service and Communications Manager.
“Each step of the way, each of my managers supported me and encouraged my growth, even recommending other departments that were a good fit for me” says Terrence. “There are opportunities for growth each day, whether it’s a promotion or by finding a solution to a challenge that presents itself.”
Recently, in his new role, Terrence participated in the Career Fair, taking the time to explain to staff members the opportunities available in communications and general services.
“The best part was showing how Linden Ponds and Erickson Senior Living encourages career growth across the board,” he says. “The best take-away, from the viewpoint of an employee, is that there are always opportunities, and you will always be supported and encouraged to grow.”
