Hingham Public Schools is proud to share that Jamie Zelenka, a social studies teacher at Hingham High School, has been selected as one of 55 educators nationwide to participate in National History Day’s (NHD) Researching Silent Heroes webinar series. This program, in partnership with the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC), provides teachers with a unique opportunity to research and memorialize American service members who lost their lives in military service. Hingham High School and the broader Hingham Public Schools community are incredibly proud of Jamie Zelenka’s selection.
Details of the Program:
Zelenka will engage in an intensive historical research process, focusing on an individual who served in the United States military and is either buried or memorialized in an ABMC cemetery.
From now until March 2025, participants will receive guidance from historians and research specialists, learning advanced research strategies and methodologies.
The research will be completed by April 2025, and the final profiles will be published on NHD’s Silent Heroes website and utilized by ABMC for educational purposes.
Additional Context:
The Researching Silent Heroes program includes teachers from 32 states and two Department of Defense (DoDEA) schools overseas.
The program focuses on service members buried or memorialized at 17 ABMC cemeteries worldwide.
This initiative ensures that the sacrifices of fallen service members are recognized and remembered
Congratulations Jamie! I’m very, very proud that Hingham High School has such a prestigious teacher! I hope my granddaughter, Katie Kracunas, is in your class.
