The select board this week proclaimed Wednesday, April 9, as Education and Sharing Day in Hingham.
Established by the United States Congress in 1978 in honor of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, Education and Sharing Day calls for an increased focus on education and recognizes his lifelong efforts for education.
The proclamation, signed by the select board, acknowledges Hingham as a community that is “committed to excellence in education, recognizing that a quality education is one of the significant foundations for the continuing success of our state, our country, and our society at large.”
The proclamation also recognizes the important contributions of Hingham’s teachers, paraprofessionals, school administrators, and staff “in assuring high-quality education for our children.”
April 9, 2025 marks what would have been the 123rd birthday of the rabbi, who was “devoted to educating people worldwide and who demonstrated a profound respect for diversity, inclusiveness, and equal justice.”
The proclamation calls for all residents of Hingham “to increase their energy and dedication to the education of our youth” and for government officials, educators, volunteers, and citizens “to reach out to those within your communities and work to create a better, brighter, and more hopeful future for all.”
