The Hingham Anchor is the proud official media partner of the Summer Wiffle Ball Classic.
It’s time to get outside and play some wiffle ball! The third annual Summer Wiffle Ball Classic to benefit Boston Children’s Hospital will take place on Sunday, September 1st at Carlson field in Hingham. This is a fun community based event expected to attract 50 teams, over 300 participants and many community volunteers.
The first two years the tournament has raised over $60,000 for the hospital. The idea for the Summer Wiffle Ball Classic came from 17-year-old Alex Malloy, a Hingham resident and patient at Boston Children’s Hospital being treated for Gorham Stout, an extremely rare bone disease of the lymphatic system. Alex is teaming up again with Dan Ventresca, who was raised in Hingham and also treated at Boston Children’s for Gorham Stout disease. Alex and Dan have a Boston Children's Hospital connection and a Gorham Stout connection but they also share a love of sports. Thus, a wiffle ball tournament is the perfect fit for a fun community event that raises awareness and funds for an important cause.
The tournament is being held on Sunday September 1st at Carlson field in Hingham.
Highlights include the following:
- Tournaments for four age groups
- Game start times: 8:30 a.m. for K- 2nd grade,3rd, 5th grade and Middle School and 1 p.m. for High School/Adult
- All teams are guaranteed at least three games
- Home Run Derby
- Great raffle/auction items
- Hornstra Ice Cream Truck, Thyme Traveling Food Truck
