April Tremante grew up in a small Connecticut town that did not have a girls’ soccer program until she was 13. She did not let that stop her. She played on boys teams instead.
Now, Tremante prepares to lead the Hingham High School varsity girls soccer team with the same motivated mentality.
“I love coaching and motivating my players to be the best player and person they can be on and off the field,” she said.
Tremante brings plenty of experience to the team. She spent four years as a starter for the Boston College Eagles, serving as a captain during her senior year. In 2005, she began her coaching career at Weston High School.
Through her “firm, but kind” coaching style, Tremante aims to build a strong positive culture and community.
She believes that athletics can provide a foundation of good values and morals for a person entering adulthood, as it can teach the rewards of hard work, competition and teamwork.
“Coaching is a very rewarding profession. It’s so wonderful to be able to give back to a sport that taught me so much about life,” she said.
For Tremante, it all starts with the attitude and work rate her players come with during tryouts. This, along with honesty and directness with one another, are the keys to setting up another successful year for the team.
Tremante is excited for the the challenge of upholding the program’s prominence across the nation.
“It is very cool to be working and coaching in a town that has such a great reputation in the soccer community across the state and nationwide.”
