It would be hard pressed to find a more dominate athlete around Hingham High this winter than this week’s Athlete of the Week presented by College Hype – Aidan Chan. The senior captain of the wrestling team swept all four matches this week and bringing his season record to 18-1. What’s even more impressive is that all of Aidan’s wins this week were by technical fall.
“A technical fall occurs when a wrestler is beating their opponent by 15 points or more,” explains head coach Paul Canniff. “The match is stopped and the wrestler who is beating their opponent by 15 points or more is declared the winner. Having four technical falls in a week shows Aidan’s ability to take down his opponents often and expose their shoulders to the mat by using his tilt series. We are very proud of the way Aidan is wrestling.”
Facing their toughest opponents this past week in Duxbury and Foxboro, teammate and fellow senior captain Jakub Wozny added “he is a great leader and was inspiring the team throughout the week.” The team beat Duxbury at home in thrilling fashion 44-23, while suffering their first loss of the season to Foxboro by the thinnest of margins 33-29.
