Some weeks the recipient of this award is someone who puts up a lot of stats on the score sheet, and some weeks it’s someone who made an impact by doing all the things that don’t show up on the scorecard but made a huge impact on the game or match. This week’s Athlete of the Week presented by College Hype did both. Senior Anabelle Platt made an impact from the initial jump ball to the final buzzer in Hingham’s wild game vs Duxbury last week.
The Harborwomen jumped out to a huge 19 point halftime lead, only to see that disappear by the end of the third quarter trailing by one. Going down by as much as 4 points in the fourth, Hingham was on the verge of a massive disappointment until Anabelle took over the final frame. She had 11 of 18 points scored and almost singlehandedly outscored Duxbury(14 points) in the final quarter. She had five rebounds, a couple of jump balls and a steal throughout the game.
“So she didn’t start at the beginning of the year,” explains coach Roland Millien. “I was trying to test her to see how she would react and she has responded like no other. In the last four games, she’s brought the energy every single game. Offensively, defensively, pushing people out of the paint, rebounding – a lot of it has been the Anabelle show. She’s really stepped up for us.”
The second year varsity player is getting her opportunities this year and is making the most of it according to senior captain Colette Hanney.
“Anabelle is one of the hardest workers on the team and always brings so much energy and positivity,” says Hanney. “We were struggling in the second half and we really needed someone to step up and help us out, which is exactly what Anabelle did. We couldn’t have won without her strong efforts the second half. She is very deserving of this award.”
