It was a busy nine days for this week’s Athlete of the Week presented by College Hype sophomore Meghan Koenen. Meghan particpated in three meets for Hingham’s Track and Field team, including a state championship relay meet. It started with a highly competative meet against rival Marshfield on 1/18 where she won the 600m with a personal best, won the shot put with a personal best and was part of the winning 4×400 relay team. In the state relay meet, she was part of the team that placed 3rd in the state. On Friday, she came in second in the 300m, won the shot put and was part of the winning 4×400 relay team again.
“Meghan is a tremendous asset to the team,” says head coach Rob Ritz. “She is someone the coaches can count on to do a variety of events whether it’s running or throwing. During the meet against Marshfield, we needed big performances against a tough opponent and she stepped up huge throwing a personal best in the shot put as well as running a personal best in the 600 meter run. She steps up during big time performances and comes from a family of talented track and field athletes.”
Senior captain Angelina Palek is impressed with Meghan’s performance on and off the track.
“Meghan has a great attitude and is always focused on performing well in her own individual events as well as helping her team.”
Congrats Meghan!
