It would be hard to find another team that has more fun, is more competetive and epitomizes sportsmanship more than this week’s winners of Athlete of the Week presented by College Hype – Hingham’s Unified Basketball team. It doesn’t happen often, but there are times when a group of players deserve to be recognized. Teammates Fellipe Neves, Francesco Fullicini, Jack Carleton, Paul Grady and Kyle Webb are the engine that runs this fun-loving team that has run up a 4-1 record so far this season. Last week, they hosted a Jamborie with Plymouth North and Plymouth South showcasing the inclusiveness and commitment of unified sports.
Additionally, members of the unified basketball team rang the bell before Friday night’s football game to usher in the Harbormen to the field. A new tradition this year that celebrates key members of the high school community who make an impact on the school and community.
“Even with far fewer athletes this year, this group continues to inspire their partners,” says coach Joyce Eby. “The enthusiasm, energy, and dedication to this team is evident through outstanding participation on and off the court. Nobody has more fun than Unified!”
Senior captain Jack Renna believes they are the MVPs of HHS on and off the court.
“Our athletes are all so special in their own individual ways. Fellipe, Jack Francesco, Paul and Kyle show up everyday with a smile on their faces ready to play the game of basketball. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and puts a smile on all or our faces. They truly are an inspiration to all of us on the team. They are the heart and soul of this school.”
Rumors are that they will be taking on a very special opponent in a great fundraising event next Thursday at 7pm – the Hingham Police Department.
Congrats to all the athletes this week and good luck next week!
