Hingham girls volleyball’s stunning upset over Whitman-Hanson (3-2) on Friday in the first round of the D2 MIAA Tournament was led by this week’s Athlete of the Week presented by College Hype, senior Kaitlyn Truong. Kaitlyn is an outside hitter who has been a dominant force for the Harborwomen throughout the whole season. Kaitlyn and her teammates will travel to Canton on Wednesday to play in the Round of 16.
“Kaitlyn is a complete player for us in every aspect,” says coach Jordan Lay. “She’s a true threat front row, back row, and from the service line. However, Kaitlyn’s biggest strength is her court presence. She is incredibly consistent and a true rock for us. Competitors know her and her power but she’s developed an incredible finesse and control to her game as well that we’ve come to rely on.”
Senior captain Caroline Shelsy, like her coach, is impressed with Kaitlyn’s ability to play anywhere on the court.
“Kaitlyn was a key player last week in helping us secure the playoff win,” explains Shelsy. “Her dominance at the net and consistent back row passing set the team up for success.”
Congrats Kaitlyn and good luck to the Harborwomen in the rest of their tournament journey.
