Winter season kicked off last week with plenty of amazing performances on the ice, court, track, wrestling and gymnastic mats, and in the pool that were worthy of Athlete of the Week presented by College Hype. One stood out over the rest as senior Killian La Tanzi opened the boys basketball season with two double-doubles in their first two games. He had 13 points and 14 rebounds in the season opening win vs Quincy and 10 points and 13 rebounds in a tough loss vs Marshfield on Friday night.
“Killian’s had a strong start for us this season,” says head coach Bob Kniffen. “His size down low has helped anchor our defense and has provided us mismatch opportunities on the offensive end. With his two double-doubles, he’s been the games leading rebounder in both of the first two games. His biggest impact so far has been the intangibles he brings with his defensive presence and rebounding and I’m looking forward to him and the team continuing to build off of that moving forward.”
Senior captain Charlie Matthews attributes Killian’s early season success to his offseason workouts.
“He’s been great for us in these first 2 games,” explains Matthews. “He’s obviously worked very hard over the offseason to get to where he is today and he’s going to continue to be a key part of our team as the season progresses.”
Congrats Killian!
