It doesn’t happen often, but every once in a while a freshman makes an immediate impact on a team. This week’s Athlete of the Week presented by College Hype, Libby Baxter, is one of those freshman. In the first five games of the season, she has come off the bench for the field hockey team and has scored in every game and has a total of seven goals. What’s even more impressive, is that she’s doing it on an already talented team coming off their first Final Four appearance in program history.
“She’s provided a great offensive spark off the bench and definitely has a knack for finding the net,” says coach Sue Petrie. “Libby has great skills for a freshman, and our veteran forwards have been super supportive and helpful in teaching her our offensive positioning.”
Senior captain Haylen Wilson credits her speed and stick handling skills for her early success.
“Libby’s stick skills are a huge help in the circle because shes able to quickly move around defenders to get a shot off,” Wilson comments. ” She also is successful at tipping the ball in the circle which has allowed her to help the team win games.”
Congrats Libby and we good luck on your long career at Hingham High.
