For the past two fall seasons, girls soccer senior captain Claire Murray was easily a candadite for Athelte of the Week presented by College Hype almost every week. Her efforts last year helped her team win a state championship. Her efforts this past week has earned her this award. Entering the week with a 1-1 record and having only scored one goal as a team, Claire exploded for 4 goals and helped her team tally two wins in back to back days.
“Claire had an exceptional week,” head coach Mary Frances Monroe says. “She helped us tremendously in our King Philip game while we were down 1-0 at half time. She had a very important goal in that game. She used that momentum going into our game against Quincy and put 3 away for a hat trick. I am excited to see what else Claire can do this season.”
Fellow senior captain Reese Pompeo believes Claire is finding her game at the right time.
“Over the past few games Claire has been living up to the standards people hold her accountable to,” Pompeo tells the Anchor. “She makes it work when coach puts her in the midfield, outside forward or center forward. She has helped the team gain momentum as we had a slow start but hopefully this momentum will carry on to future games.”
Congrats Claire on the long overdue recognition.
