Barbara M. Nevins of Hingham passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. She was 92.
She was born in Cohasset to the late Katherine P. (Maguire) and John H. Flaherty and raised in Hingham. She graduated from Hingham High School in the Class of 1946. She began working for the phone company and not long after, she met her husband Joseph W. Nevins, Jr., and they started a family together.
Barbara was a devoted matriarch and the center of communication for her large extended family. She was a supportive, thoughtful and loving wife and mother. She was very active in her children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s lives. She learned to follow them on Facebook and stayed in touch by participating in Zoom calls. For many years she frequented the South Shore Country Club, as a golfer and in their bowling leagues and made many lasting friendships there.
Beloved wife of the late Joseph W. Nevins, Jr., she is survived by her 5 sons and their spouses Joseph W. Nevins III and Joan M. Nevins of Hingham, Michael J. Nevins and Gail Nevins of Woburn, Peter F. Nevins and Margaret Nevins of Hingham, Daniel P. Nevins and Roberta Nevins of Hingham and Robert E. Nevins and Joan S. Nevins of Hingham. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Lindsay, Caitlin, Susannah, Cory, Patrick, David, Jessica, Allison, Christopher and Matthew, 2 great grandchildren, Emerson and Isla Hawley and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings: Catherine Flaherty, John Flaherty and Marilyn Hunton.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday, May 2, 2022, from 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Albert the Great Church, Weymouth on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at 10 AM followed by interment at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Hingham.
