June 18, 2024 By The Town of Hingham

According to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), a Heat Advisory will be in effect through Friday 6/21 for much of the South Shore, including Hingham.  Heat indices are expected to range between 85-95 degrees with Wednesday and Thursday predicted as the hottest days.

Residents can seek relief from the heat at the following Town facilities:

Limited transportation to the Center for Active Living may be available for home-bound senior residents who wish to cool off during the Center’s regular business hours.  Please call 781-741-1458 to arrange transportation.

Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant is asking residents to try to conserve electricity use during the peak hours of 3 PM – 8 PM Tuesday through Friday to prevent overtaxing the system.

Please check on your neighbors. MEMA outlines a number of extreme heat safety tips, including what to do during extreme heat and how to recognize types of heat-related illnesses.  Please take time to read these important guidelines here. As always, in the case of an emergency, please dial 911.
