She was raised in Queens, New York, and graduated from high school in Astoria, Queens. Following graduation, Beatrice continued her education at City College of New York and Syracuse University. She and her husband Charles traveled to Seattle, Washington for Charles’ doctoral studies in clinical psychology. The family returned to Westchester County, New York, in 1957. Beatrice went on to complete a Professional Diploma in School Psychology at Columbia University in the 1960s.

Beatrice was the beloved wife of the late Charles L. Kogan, who died in 2018 at age 93. The two married on June 9, 1949, and together they shared 69 years of marriage. Beatrice was the devoted mother of Kathryn B. Kogan and mother-in-law of Kenneth Foster. Beatrice was the sister of the late Eleanore Weinstein and aunt of Robert Weinstein, Amy Weinstein, and the late Danny Weinstein. She was also close with Charles’ cousin, the late Edward P. Kane, M.D., and his late wife Joan Kane of Claremont, N.H. and their offspring, Deborah, Nancy, Michael, Timothy, Jonathan and their spouses.

Beatrice worked as a school psychologist in Peekskill, New York. She loved her career, the students she cared for, and the relationships she built throughout the years. In her career she evaluated and assisted hundreds of students in the Peekskill Middle and High Schools. She was active in the teacher’s union in New York State and retired in 1996 after 28 years of service to the community. Following retirement Beatrice worked at a domestic violence shelter in Mt. Kisco, New York, where she ran the volunteer program before moving to Brookline, MA in 2005. She and Charles lived independently at the Brook House in Hingham, MA and enjoyed Boston. In 2012 the couple relocated to Linden Ponds in Hingham where they then enjoyed seven great years with new friends. In 2019, Beatrice took up residence at The Bridges in Hingham where she and her cat Pumpkin again made new friends despite her Alzheimer’s Disease. Throughout her life Beatrice loved and valued her family, friends, cats, birding, entertaining, gardening, and the New Yorker Magazine. She was quite the jitterbug dancer in her day.
