I am running for the Board of Selectmen to help Hingham plan for the future.
As we continue to face the current pandemic, my primary focus if elected will be to ensure residents’ safety and to revitalize our local economy. The pandemic has taught all of us that the challenges ahead will require difficult decisions regarding how we safely return to our accustomed way of life as well as decisions regarding the town’s financial future. During my twenty years of public service, I have brought balance and fairness with each decision I have made. I hope to continue that service by giving young families a seat at the table in the decisions impacting our community.
I am a life-long Hingham resident and product of the Hingham Public School System. My wife Adrienne serves on the Recreation Commission and I have three children enrolled at Foster School. I recognize the school department’s important role in our community and realize that we will need to be proactive in addressing the financial needs of our school system. I have new ideas to generate additional revenue without increasing property taxes, keeping Hingham affordable for those on a fixed income.
My passion for public service prompted me to run and be elected to the Hingham Recreation Commission during my first year of law school in 1998. With over twelve years of experience on the Hingham Planning and Zoning Boards, I helped to write several portions of the Hingham Zoning By-Law and worked to improve the town’s permitting process through my service on the Zoning Permit Study Committee. My peers have twice elected me to serve as the Chairman of the Planning Board. In addition, I have been appointed to the Hingham Education Foundation, the Hingham July 4th Parade Committee, Friends of the Hingham Council on Aging, and the Fort Hill Street Veterans Home Committee. I coach each of my three children in Flag Football, Hingham Youth Baseball, and John Barker Basketball. I also serve as an Assistant Scout Leader for Pack 27.
I believe my professional experience will guide me in making the many difficult legal decisions facing the Board of Selectmen. In the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, I served as a prosecutor, defense attorney, and taught Constitutional Law at West Point. During my active duty time in the Army, I deployed to both Afghanistan and Iraq. I also have experience as an Assistant District Attorney in the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and served as an Assistant Chief Counsel for the US Department of Homeland Security.
My twenty years of military service and federal government management experience have provided me with skills in managing large organizations, making personnel decisions, and managing budgets. As we continue to move into uncharted waters in dealing with the current pandemic, I believe my service as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve will help shape the town’s response to unpredictable and complex challenges.
I hold a BA in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts, a JD from Northeastern University Law School, an MBA from Babson College, and an MSS from the Army War College.

Billy, you are the best ! I knew you were bright and dedicated but I just learned about your MBA from Babson. You are such an amazing talent and wonderful human being and I’m so glad Hingham can still claim you as a citizen and hopefully soon as a new selectmen🥰
Great resume, I’d vote for you if I could.
