Basketball games between Hingham and Scituate usually come down to the wire, and last night’s game was no different. The game was one of the most entertaining of the season as both teams battled until the final buzzer. In the end, Hingham came up a point short 73-72, despite senior captain Liam McBride hitting two 3-pointers in the final 20 seconds.
McBride, who knocked down a 3-pointer at the first half buzzer, finished the second quarter with 12 points. Senior captain Nick Dubois knocked down some big shots in the third quarter after Scituate got out to an eight point lead. Dubois, who scored nine points in the third quarter, led Hingham on a 10-0 run giving the Harbormen a two point lead. Following that sequence early in the second half, the teams traded baskets throughout the later part of the game. Junior Chase Mello scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half and junior Noah Manning, starting for senior Conor McCann, had two big baskets late in the game as well as a monster block from behind to keep the game close.
The difference in the end was free throws. Scituate made 14 of 17, while Hingham only got to the line five times in the game. With the loss, the boys drop to 4-7 on the year with a little less than half the season remaining. Still plenty of time to get back above .500 come tournament time.
