MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak announced today that proposed service cuts to public transportation due to lower ridership during the pandemic and the T's large budget deficit -- including those related to Hull and Hingham/Hull ferry service, the Greenbush commuter rail line, and the 714 Hull bus, which is used by some Hingham residents  -- would not be presented at today's remote Fiscal and Management Control Board meeting as expected.

The meeting began at 11 a.m., and according to a Facebook post, the board went into executive session, with plans to continue the discussion at 11:30 a.m.

The initial round of service reductions will be announced next week, on Dec. 14. Poftak also announced that some changes to transit services will be moved to Fiscal Year 2022.

  1. Usually, when a decision is delayed it is because the proponents realize they do NOT have public support. They meet in executive session to discuss and assign people to pressure, cajole, and make false promises to politicians and community leaders. Once they feel they have these people in their pocket there will be an announcement and it will be a done deal. The public will be shafted and cheated by people that are paid for by our tax dollars. People that we voted for based on campaign lies and insincerity. And you know what, we will vote these people in to office again and we will bend over and spread our cheeks and says thank you, you have done such a great job. Does not this sound like your community?
