May 7, 2021, Submitted Laura Marwill, Candidate for Hingham Town Clerk
My name is Laura English Marwill and I’m a civic leader with elections, town government, and business experience. This broad background makes me the qualified candidate to perform the important duties of the office while serving as a welcoming face for the Town of Hingham as your next Town Clerk.
I am the only candidate for Town Clerk who has worked the last four elections in Hingham, serving as a Warden during the local, state, and national elections. In this role, I took an oath (Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 54, §20) and am proud to administer the election process with the same integrity that has been a hallmark of Hingham's elections for generations past and will be for generations to come.
During my two terms as a member of the Hingham Advisory Committee, I worked alongside others dedicated to Hingham, with a focus on school and recreation budgets, the Hingham Affordable Housing Trust, and the Community Preservation Committee. In those six years, I learned much about the inner workings of our town government and am proud to have been part of a forum that makes thoughtful recommendations for Town Meeting.
My business experience over the last 25 years includes work at BankBoston (VP of Fixed Income), certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and my current position as treasurer for Sturtevant, Inc. I’m well-versed in detailed work with government oversight. I'm dedicated to keeping the Town Clerk's office a well-run, responsive resource for records, documents and information, and a source of pride for the community.
Above all else, I feel a responsibility to serve the town that has been a bedrock for my family for decades. My mother, Edna English, was an example to me through her graciousness and dedicated service to Hingham. I’m the right person for the job and look forward to continuing the tradition of warm and friendly service to Hingham residents and all who enter our town.
