Coastal Cat Rescue launches sneaker drive fundraiser in Cohasset and Hingham

September 13, 2024 Submitted by Coastal Cat Rescue

Coastal Cat Rescue is holding an athletic shoe drive fundraiser in Hingham, Cohasset,  Hull, and Quincy from September 13 through October 13 to raise money for our newly formed organization.

Coastal Cat Rescue will earn funds based on the total quantity of gently worn, used, and new sneakers collected. GotSneakers, a social enterprise, will issue funds in compensation for the collected sneakers. Anyone can help by simply donating gently worn, used, and new sneakers.

GotSneakers has developed a unique fundraising program that asks communities to reach into their closets, not their pockets!

It’s estimated that around 600 million pairs of shoes that could be recycled or reused go into our landfills. The sneaker recycling program helps keeps sneakers  out of landfills, which has harmful effects on our environment, and helps organizations like oursraise much needed funds.

“We are excited about our sneaker fundraiser,” said Coastal Cat Rescue President Ellen Whitney. “We know that most people have extra sneakers in their closets that they would rather donate than throw away. By doing so, we raise money for our rescue and help the environment. It’s a win– win for everyone!”

Coastal Cat Rescue is a foster only-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in early 2024. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome stray and unwanted cats in the South Shore and Greater Boston areas. Every animal in our care receives the love, compassion and medical care they need to thrive until they find their forever family.

Our goal is to create a community where every cat has a loving and permanent home while working to reduce the population of stray and unwanted felines through spaying, neutering, and education.

Every member of the organization is a volunteer. This ensures that all donations and adoption fees directly benefit the cats in our care.

Boxes will be placed at the following locations:

Rockland Trust, Hull
 Proving Ground Studio, Hull
 Proving Ground Studio, Quincy
 Hingham Recreation Department, Hingham
 Orangetheory, Hingham
 Cohasset Library, Cohasset
 Balance Studio of Cohasset
 South Shore Athletic Club, Cohasset
