The entire community is invited to participate in the 1st Annual South Shore Cones for a Cause at Hingham Shipyard on Friday, Aug. 26, in conjunction with the Hingham Shipyard's Summer Music Series final concert, featuring Aerosmith tribute band Draw the Line, the concert will start at 6pm. About 2,000 people are expected to participate in the festivities.
The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. on the greenspace across from Menchie's Frozen Yogurt. Tickets are $10 per person and include four samples of different ice cream and frozen yogurt flavors from 11 companies "to make for a wonderful summer send-off and to support a great cause," organizer Adam White, a Hingham resident, told the Hingham Anchor. "The Shipyard is the perfect venue."
Ice cream flavor changes during the event will be made known to attendees from the band stage for those interested in purchasing another sample pack.
A coupon for a frozen yogurt sample from Menchie's across the street from the event tent is also included with each ticket. All proceeds will benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund.
Ice cream brands include Ben & Jerry's, Bliss, Brigham's, Buon! Per Te, Gifford's, Hood, Lactaid, Menchie's, Nona's, Shake Shack, and The Farmer's Cow.
White's late father, Donald White, Sr., of Hendries Ice Cream, started the Boston Jimmy Fund Scooper Bowl 39 years ago, "so this is a tribute to him in bringing a similar event to Hingham as well as to the success of the Scooper Bowl -- a labor of love," he said.

"The town and the Shipyard have all been great in helping to get this event off the ground," White said. "We're hoping that this becomes an annual event."
The Hingham Fire Department will provide an engine or two for a "touch-a-truck" event for the kids.
