My name is Crystal Kelly and I am running for Planning Board because I believe in the future of Hingham. The Planning Board is integral to shaping the character of the Town and charting the impact and direction of its growth. The Board issues certain permits, performs site plan review and prepares zoning amendments, among other duties. I want to thank Rita DaSilva for her years of dedication on the Board, and look forward to continuing her strong legacy of advocacy for the residents of Hingham.
I live in the Liberty Pole neighborhood with my husband Joe and our six school aged kids. Our kids attend the Hingham Public Schools, playing a variety of sports from youth lacrosse to the high school wrestling team, and are in Scouting. When I have a free minute, I like to explore Hingham’s conservation land and Wompatuck State Park on my horse, Rebel “Rainbow” Kelly (so named by my four year old daughter) or with our dogs. I also like to turn a wrench and can be found working on my 1973 Caprice Classic in our driveway – frequently seen (and heard!) cruising around town.
We chose Hingham to raise our family because it really is the best town! We have great schools, a rich history, and fantastic people. Interestingly, when I was doing genealogy research for my D.A.R. membership, I learned that my direct ancestors lived in Hingham in the 1600s. No wonder why I feel such a strong connection to our Town!
Public service is integral to who I am and what I have dedicated my career (and much of my free time) to. Currently, I am serving my sixth year on Hingham’s Conservation Commission and have been elected chair for the third year in a row. Professionally, I am an attorney at a municipal litigation firm, and before that worked as Town Solicitor for a large South Shore community. My experience serving on a town permitting board as well as the years I’ve spent crafting legal solutions for land use issues in a busy community will help me make informed decisions on the issues facing Hingham.
It is crucial to pick the right candidate for a board as important as the Planning Board. If I am elected, I promise to be a thoughtful, informed voice for Hingham. I humbly ask for your vote on May 3rd .
