The federal Centers for Disease Control determined on June 2 that Plymouth County’s COVID-19 community presence is now “medium” – down from "high” over the past few weeks, Assistant Town Administrator Art Robert reported to the Select Board Tuesday night.
"This decision to downgrade our community presence level is consistent with other data we’ve seen for Hingham, suggesting a decline in cases over the last few weeks," Robert said.
When a community is in the "medium" category, the CDC does not recommend indoor masks, regardless of vaccination status, according to Robert. "As such, we are removing signs with this recommendation from exterior doors of town buildings."
While this is an improvement, COVID-19 persists, he said. At the "medium" community presence level, CDC recommendations include that:
- those at high risk for severe illness talk to their healthcare provider about whether they need to wear a mask and/or take other precautions'
- individuals stay up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccines and
- get tested if they experience symptoms.
"Going forward, we will provide updates based on changes in the CDC’s COVID community presence level or other compelling data," Robert said.
