Dorothy Stephenson Snowdon of Hingham died peacefully at home on May 20, 2023.

Born on May 14, 1930, she was the cherished daughter of Eleanor May (Aindow) and John Robert Stephenson. Growing up in Everett Ma. Dottie was one of the “Woodlawn Girls”, a friendship group that lasted their lifetimes. It was on a roller-skating outing where she met the love of her life, Alton G Snowdon. They dated throughout high school and were married on July 22,1950
They settled in Hingham and raised five daughters. A love for photography, started by her father, progressed while taking lots of baby pictures, birthday parties, and camping trips. Her hobby became her career in darkroom photography, reproducing old photos and enhancing damaged ones. It was also her art. Dottie was a member of the South Shore Camera Club for over 20 years, winning many awards for her photographs.

In Dottie’s high school yearbook her future plans were to see the world. And she did just that. She and Al traveled on trains, planes, automobiles, and ships visiting many countries and making new friends.
Al and Dot were married for 63 years, until his death in 2013. She is survived by her daughters: Gail, Ellen and her husband Edward Hatch, Jane, Margaret and her husband Steven Messinger, Jennifer and her husband Robert Mechan. Her granddaughters: Elizabeth and her husband David Houghton, Esther and her husband Robert McKay. Her great granddaughters: Samantha Houghton and Emmaline McKay. She was predeceased by her great granddaughter Dorothy Iris Anne McKay.
Family and friends are invited to attend her committal service on Friday, May 26 at High Street Cemetery, 19 High St Hingham at 11 am. A memorial service will follow at First Baptist Church, 85 Main St Hingham at 12 pm. For more information and online guestbook go to www.downingchapel.com.
