Hingham woke up to a rumble Sunday morning, after a magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck near the South Coast.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred just after 9 AM.
Shaking near the epicenter, pinpointed near Dartmouth, lasted 10-15 seconds.
In Hingham, generally weak shaking was reported.
Near downtown, neighbors reported glassware shaking the cabinets.
Small earthquakes are not uncommon in Massachusetts, but it’s much less common to have a quake felt across such a wide geographic area like this one.
