On Tuesday, June 9th, East Elementary School celebrated 'East Spirit Day 2020' on what would have been its annual Field Day at school. The theme was "Together at East," which has been one of the main messages to the school community throughout the time spent at home.
Each student received a Spirit Day tee shirt inspired by the design of East 5th grader Keira O'Brien, and a package of wildflower seeds from Holly Hill Farm.
The day kicked off with a pump-up video from East PE teacher, Luke Dodge, and guest appearances by 3rd-grade teacher Bev Vernon and Mark Rulli decked out in his famous dinosaur costume.
The PTO put together a fun line-up of activities that included a 'BOKS' Blinding Lights dance challenge and a "Get Smart About Art" directed draw of the East Explorers cartoon logo.
Additionally, a read-aloud of the book 'Miss Rumphius,' which incorporated the students spreading their wildflower seeds, and many more pop-up videos & activities from East parents, teachers, and staff.
The day concluded with a school-wide Zoom Talent Showcase featuring musical, dance, and acting performances by both students and teachers.
Principal, Tony Keady, was the Master of Ceremonies and offered up some comedy in between acts. Music teacher Melissa Tompkins opened up the night with a song, and 4th-grade teacher Molly Keif wrapped things up with a rendition of the song 'From Now On' from The Greatest Showman, with a message to the students that read "And we will come back home East."
