The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees) announces a week of February Vacation adventures at their five South Shore reservations. From guided hikes through World’s End to Open Barnyard programs at Weir River Farm and a unique two-day Biomimicry Workshop for teens, there is something (outdoors) for everyone.
“Families are eager to find special things to do during vacation and The Trustees is creating unique programs to encourage them to spend time outside,” said Trustees South Shore Portfolio Director Anne Smith-White. “We hope people of all ages will visit our beautiful properties this winter, whether they sign up for a program or just head out to explore the trails.”
For little ones:
Open Barnyard at Weir River Farm, Tuesday, February 22 – Thursday, February 24, 12 noon and 1PM. Experience life on one of the last working farms on the South Shore. Meet our ponies, llama, and potbellied pig. Interact with our goats, sheep, and chickens! See if you can find our herd of black and white belted Galloway cattle in their pasture and meet Precious, our friendly barnyard cat! For teens:
Climate Change Challenge for Teens Tuesday and Wednesday, February 22 and 23 from 10AM-2PM at Weir River Farm. Through games, activities, and outdoor observation, teenagers ages 12-15 learn about the causes and impacts of global warming and explore ways they can make a difference. Biomimicry-in-Action Workshop Thursday and Friday, February 24 and 25 from 10AM-2PM at Weir River
Farm. Through two days of hands-on activities, learn about biomimicry – nature’s creative and elegant engineering design process. This workshop is for teens ages 13-16 who are creative and curious, like to build things, and who care about the planet and want to help save the world. For everyone:
The South Shore Reindeer Quest returns to all five South Shore properties this month. Find herds of reindeer, lovingly created by 15 local Scout troops at Weir River Farm, World’s End and Whitney & Thayer Woods in Hingham, the Norris Reservation in Norwell, and Two-Mile Farm in Marshfield. Scan their special QR codes to find out their favorite flavor of Girl Scout cookie and their favorite Reindeer Game, among many other sweet, funny personality details. Free. Our Winter Bonfire celebration lights up the night on Saturday, February 12 from 5-8PM at Weir River Farm. Weir River Farm Store is open Saturday, February 26 from 10AM – 3PM featuring Trustees-grown produce, meat, and eggs as well as locally-sourced groceries like fine cheeses, hand-crafted jellies, jams, pickles, pesto, and so much more.
