This Fourth of July will look and feel very different without Hingham’s long-standing and beloved traditions, including the Hingham Recreation Road Race, Annual Fourth of July Parade, and the Hingham Harbor Fireworks. However, many residents have come together to make lemonade out of lemons and find ways to safely celebrate our country as a community!
Virtual 4th of July Parade
Tradition carries on in Hingham this 4th of July as Harbor Media and the Parade Committee present "Hingham Celebrates the 4th of July" video. Jim Murphy, president of the Parade Committee shared that the virtual parade will include earlier parade footage and photographs that are blended with current interviews, including this year's honored guests in Hingham's July 4th parade. Viewers can relive the parade as we dive deep into what goes into making the parade, it's history, highlighting various bands, floats, the Grand Marshal and more! You can tune in at 10am on Verizon 29, 2131 and Comcast 22, 97 on the 4th of July. The parade will be replayed at 12pm and 4pm on July 4th, as well as on Sunday, July 5th, at 10am,12pm, and 4pm!
If you miss it on TV, the Hingham Anchor will also be sharing the video on Saturday morning for your online viewing pleasure - thanks to our video partner Harbor Media!
Ring them Bells!
This July 4, 2020 several churches in Hingham will ring their bells at 10 A.M. which is the traditional start time of the Hingham July 4th parade. All residents are asked to participate, following all social distancing guidelines, on their own property and make some noise at 10 A.M. sharp to mark the July 4th holiday. Fly flags, wave to your neighbors, sing patriot songs! Covid will NOT stop Hingham from celebrating July 4th.
“Like many Hingham residents, I was feeling really lost without the festivities associated with July 4th. Our country, and our town, have gone through so much it seemed like we couldn't just give up on the Fourth of July! The desire to be free is deeply human, and now more than ever it needs to be discussed and celebrated,” shared bell ringing event organizer, Diane DeNapoli.
Whatever you have planned - we wish you a safe, fun and festive Fourth of July!!
