In Hingham's biggest football game of the season to date, the Big Red will take on the Duxbury Dragons this Friday, September 27, 2019 at 7pm on the turf at Hingham High School.
Hingham enters the most recent edition of this Patriot League matchup with a 3-0 record, while Duxbury has faced a challenging early slate and is sporting a 1-2 record. Hingham head coach Mark Nutley recognizes the Dragons record is a bit deceiving, “They are one of, if not the best two-loss team in the state. Both of their losses are against two of the top programs in state by a combined 4 points (Brockton and Bridgewater-Raynham).” As the adage says, the records are thrown out the window when these teams play because of the long history and mutual respect the towns have for each other. However, the lopsided recent history of this matchup has not been lost on Coach Nutley, “I think the last time Duxbury lost a league game was in 2007, that is pretty impressive, that is quite a run. When you have lost to someone for 12 years, and some of those years we lost to them twice in a season, it isn't much of a rivalry. Our goal is to be the best and win a Patriot League title, and that has been in Duxbury for a long time, so the team knows that to reach our goals we have to go through Duxbury.”
The successful formula that has led to the 3-0 start for the Harbormen includes strong contributions from all phases of the game. According to Coach Nutley, “Not one person has put us on their backs and carried us. We feel like everyone has done their job and trusted their brothers to carry out their assignments. Yes, we have had some big rushing games, but it isn't just one person, the O-line and WRs are doing a great job of blocking people and opening up holes and sealing the edge for our ball carriers. The same time our ball carriers are finding the holes and creases and making team pay for that. Defensively we are playing team defense, guys are trusting each other playing assignment football getting their correct fits and most importantly we are gang tackling.” Needless to say, this will be an exciting contest in the next edition of Hingham Friday Night Lights.
Friday will also be cancer awareness night. The football team and dance team are donating to Pediatric Cancer. In honor of pediatric cancer, the boys will be wearing gold socks and the dance team will wear gold bows. Gold is the official color for pediatric cancer.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Children under 12 are free.
Due to the size of the crowd this game draws, school officials are encouraging fans to arrive early for parking and easy entry.
