It’s business as usual at the Fruit Center today following yesterday’s accident, when a pickup truck drove into the Water Street side of the store.

The Fruit Center closed briefly yesterday after the late-afternoon incident but reopened around 6 p.m., according to Fruit Center Business Manager Julie Foley. “We’re open our regular hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.,” she said. “We’re operating the same as usual.”

The driver was injured and transported to the hospital. No other injuries were reported.

“We’re very grateful no one else was hurt,” Foley said. “Fortunately there weren’t any customers entering or exiting the store at the time.”

The name “G&D Excavators” and a phone number were visible on the side of the truck. The building commissioner was at the scene to assess for structural damage. The accident is under investigation.
