On Monday, January 6th, the girls basketball team hosted the Scituate Sailors and after a hard fought game, came away with the victory.
The first quarter started off strong for the Harborwomen, with Anna Post beginning the scoring early on. Hingham’s defense kept the Sailors at bay with forced turnovers and huge blocks by both Senior Captain Caroline Connolly and Sophomore Eileen Lowther. The chemistry of the team was clear on the court and the girls were able to lead 11-4 at the close of the quarter.
Hingham started with possession in the second quarter and Sophomore Kylie McAloon quickly made shots to further the team’s lead. In the second quarter, Hingham’s depth in their roster became evident, as each player’s’ communication and energy helped them capitalize on others’ achievements. Swift ball movement from Connolly, Lowther, and Junior Sophia McDougal pushed the Harborwomen to a 13 point lead. Hingham’s phenomenal defense held Scituate scoreless for the first four minutes of the quarter, which prompted the Sailors to call a timeout. However, even as Scituate made some key plays, Hingham stood their ground as Sophomore Kate McBride put up 4 points in one minute. At halftime, the Harborwomen led the Sailors 22-15.
In the 3rd quarter, both teams drew a ton of fouls, but Hingham’s communication and hustle separated them from their opponents. A combination of consistency, good vision, and forcing turnovers contributed to Hinghams 36-20 lead going into the last quarter.
The energy in the fourth quarter, both on and off the court, ultimately led the Harborwomen to their first victory this season. With McBride making two 3’s and strong defense from Connolly and Sophomore Tatum Lane, these girls were able to make plays happen. The final score for Harborwomen victory was 49-25.
The Girls Basketball Team will travel to TD Garden to face off against Hull this Saturday, January 11th at 10am. Tickets can be purchased here. Congrats and best of luck to the team!
