January 22, 2024 By Roy Harris

Hingham Civic Music Theatre has scheduled “Gypsy,” the Broadway smash hit with songs by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, as its next, mid-April production.

Director Steve Dooner has set auditions for this Monday, Jan. 22, at Hingham Town Hall’s Sanborn Auditorium, 210 Central St. Callbacks are slated for Tuesday, Jan. 23.

HCMT is scheduling childrens’ auditions, for kids 8 and older, from 6-7:30 p.m. on Monday, with adults auditioning from 7:30-9:30 p.m. “Callback” auditions for each group would be held on Tuesday, at the same times. Rehearsal schedules are being designed to have the show ready for “Gypsy’s” run on the weekends of April 12-13 and April 20-21.

The classic show, with hits like “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You” and “Together Wherever We Go,” will have choreography by Diana Byrne Gossard, music direction by Sandee Brayton, and stage management by Julie Collinge. Dooner has directed numerous shows for Hingham Civic, as well as for other companies. The show’s book is by Arthur Laurents.

Details for auditioning, which is by appointment, are on the HCMT.org website at http://www.hcmt.org/home.html.
