Two days after losing their home opener 3-0 to North Quincy, the Harborwomen came storming back and swept Marshfield in three sets on Wednesday. It was quite a turnaround for first year coach Jordan Lay and his team.
The win not only evened up their record, but gave Lay his first win.
“It feels great, simple as that, it feels great,” Lay says with a smile after the game. “It was a great response coming off Monday. We played a great team on Monday. It was a good challenge to start the year. To respond here on the home court to get back to even, a total team effort, I couldn’t be prouder.”
In stark contrast to Monday’s match, Hingham came out firing early in the first set and never looked back. Maybe they got the first match nerves out of their system because it was a total 180 vs Marshfield.
“I think that we worked out our nerves on Monday,” Lay went on to say. “I think that with the chaos of not being on the regular court (equipment malfunction) and things like that probably didn’t help our nerves. I think we are more comfortable now. We spent a lot of time on passing and serving in practice and I think that really showed tonight. What we want to dictate in first ball contact on both ends – serve and serve receive. LT (Olivia Tamburro) went on a huge run (serving) for us to start and that really fired up things. We did a great job start to finish.”
A new coach and new system takes some time getting used to but girls might have turned the corner with this win.
“It was a total team effort. Everyone played a role and everyone did a great job. We are all really happy with their performance.”
The girls hit the road for their first away game of the season on Monday at Plymouth North.
