The Hingham High School boys lacrosse team defeated Duxbury in overtime to win the Division 1 South Sectional Title and advance to MIAA State Championship game.
After a back and forth 1st quarter, the Harbormen jumped out to a 6-3 halftime lead. Duxbury slowly closed the gap in the 3rd before tying it up 6-6 in the 4th quarter. Duxbury would then take the lead 7-6 late in the 4th quarter. After being held scoreless for the entire second half, HHS collected a turnover and called timeout with 30 seconds in regulation. The play was executed to perfection and the Harbormen tied the score with 24 seconds left in the game. The game would go to overtime.
After losing to Duxbury in overtime earlier in the year, Hingham was not going to allow themselves to experience a similar fate this time around. The teams exchanged a few possessions in overtime before HHS scored the game winner with 3 seconds on the clock.
The Harbormen were paced by a hat trick from senior Jake Higgins (all in the first half) with the tying goal from Will Kenney and game winner from Cooper Dainton.
Hingham (22-2) will face Lincoln-Sudbury (16-4) on Thursday, June 20 at Boston University for the Division 1 State Championship. Face-off will be at 7:30pm. The Harbormen seek to complete their redemption tour as they were defeated by L-S earlier this season in hard fought game.
