The viewing of the documentary "A Plastic Ocean" at the Middle School yesterday (April 11) hosted by all of the Hingham Public Schools Green Teams, was a big success. The event was attended by more than 50 people, followed by a meaningful conversation and questions and answers. Posters were put up around town and in all the schools announcing the film, which addressed plastic ocean pollution and what we can do to help.
Exhibitions set up in the hallways near the auditorium showed examples of techniques people can use to curb their waste. Student Sarah Cassidy introduced the film, and another student, Andy Ayer, spoke about the proposed single-use plastic bag ban that voters will consider and decide upon at the April 22 Town Meeting. If passed, Hingham would join the 91 other Massachusetts cities and towns that already have bans in place, including Cohasset, Duxbury, and Marshfield.
