Hingham High School Principal Rick Swanson today (May 17) announced his plan to resign before the start of the new school year after accepting the position of athletic director and wellness coordinator for the Silver Lake Regional School District. He served as HHS’s assistant principal and then principal for a combined 17 years.
“This new opportunity represents a genuine homecoming for me, since I attended Silver Lake as a high school student and later returned as a teacher and coach before moving into school administration,” he said in an email to HHS students and families. “As much as I will miss HHS and all of you, I am excited about this next step in my own professional journey.”
Swanson said it has been a great “honor and privilege to work here and in my own community [for so many years]. Throughout 10 years as an assistant principal, and then for the past seven years as principal, I’ve found tremendous fulfillment while helping a great school work toward its goals. I am deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to be your principal.”
In an email to the HPS community, Supt. Margaret Adams congratulated Swanson on his new position and thanked him for his 17 years of service to the school district and the community. “We wish Mr. Swanson all the best in his future professional endeavors.”
The district will begin its search for a replacement soon. “We will send a follow-up communication with the timeline and details for the process, including seeking feedback from the community,” Adams said.
Swanson will remain in his role as principal through August and assist with transitioning the new high school principal.
