Hingham CARES is pleased to announce its new status as a non-profit. Individuals who are interested in supporting Hingham’s prevention coalition may do so with a tax-deductible charitable donation. Hingham CARES also recently applied for a federal “Drug-Free Communities Support Program” grant offered by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). A tremendous amount of volunteer hours went into the application, and Kristen Arute and Lori McCarthy would like to thank Libby Claypoole, Lynn Adams and Pam Johnson in particular for all of their help with the various components of the grant. Grant award notifications will be announced in October.
One major aspect of the grant application was to demonstrate community-level support for the coalition. This was done by securing Coalition Involvement Agreements from individuals representing 12 pre-identified sectors in the community. We would like to extend our gratitude to the following people for their willingness to commit to supporting the mission of Hingham CARES: Maddie Blackstone of SADD, Lynn Adams, Mary Ann Blackmur of Hingham Community Center, Laura Winters of Hingham Anchor, Dr. Paul Austin, Tina Dwyer of South Shore Health Services, Chief Glenn Olsson, Rev. Steve Aucella of New North Church, Jennie Donegan of Hingham Women’s Club, Debra Hoffman, Sheriff Joe McDonald and DA Tim Cruz, and Rev. Kurt Gerold of The Anchor of Hull.
“The response to Hingham CARES has been overwhelmingly positive. We are grateful for all of the support we have received and look forward to expanding our programming offerings through these new funding channels,” said Kristen Arute, president of Hingham CARES.
