Spirits were high and the competitive juices were flowing this past Saturday at MassMVMNT, who generously played host to the 2025 Hingham Crew Ergathon. Four-person teams of Hingham rowers competed against each other and strove to row the most meters in a one-hour period. Prizes were awarded to the top boys and girls teams, but the goal of all of the participants was to have a great time while raising funds to support Hingham High Crew. By that measure, all of the rowers who participated emerged as winners.

Adding even more flair and fun, each team of competitors chose a different theme, with some truly creative and unique ideas coming to life. In the first heat, the Rowing Rats competed against the Monkeys, Rowdeo, and PB&J, among others. In the second heat, Bogen’s Buds took on teams like Unvincible, Hingham Oarsmen, and the Superheroes in a spirited and lively contest.

Each team left everything on the erg as they rowed great races, surrounded by loud cheers from their teammates and the many spectators who had gathered to witness the event. There were more than a few incredible performances as the rowers locked in and pushed hard to take home a win. On the wall facing the rowers, a monitor showed the progress of each “boat” as they traded leads and fought for every meter.

After both heats of the Hingham Crew Team finished their races, groups of parents and supporters hopped on the erg machines for their own 1K meter race! Many of the adult rowers, with a range of experience on a rowing machine, were expertly coached by their very own Hingham Crew rowers. The high-energy playlist and festive atmosphere led to some impressive results from all of the competitors present. It was truly a special morning for the Hingham rowing community.

The Ergathon, Hingham Crew’s largest annual fundraiser, directly supports the state champion rowing team, the second largest team sport in town. All of the proceeds from the event help to pay for equipment, coaching launches, boat repairs, and other expenses, as the crew team is almost entirely funded through the generosity of its donors. To date, the team has raised just shy of $34K, marking the event as a tremendous success.

Hingham Crew is a no-cut sport (although rosters may be capped if numbers get too large), and the Spring season begins on Monday, March 10th. Any students interested in rowing this Spring should visit the brand-new Hingham Crew website, which has information about the history of the team, the impressive coaching staff, and details about how to register.
