Through many generous donations and countless volunteer hours, South Shore Action has helped welcome Afghan 20 evacuees to the area. But the initial model of being the first welcoming stop for these guests and then sending them on their way, has come up against the harsh reality of what comes next.
Overwhelmed resettlement agencies and language barriers, scant government funds and expensive housing, long postponed medical care and shock, have all combined to show that these people will need help for a while longer.
The Hingham Democratic Town Committee, South Shore Action, and South Shore Young Democrats are jointly sponsoring a fundraising event to enable the ongoing support of these Afghan evacuees. You can contribute via GoFundMe at https://bit.ly/hdtc_arp, and that help is both urgently needed and deeply appreciated.
The educational program, consisting of Afghan speakers, raffles, a silent auction, and Afghan food & beverages, will take place on Saturday, May 21 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Hingham Community Center (70 South Street).

This is going to be a wonderful event…lots of different Afghan foods and beverages to sample, hear the compelling stories of some of the recently arrived Afghan evacuees that were hosted at Glastonbury Abbey and bid on several wonderful silent auction items and raffles…
It’s going to be a fun day in Hingham Square. Hingham Historical Society’s Sprigham and this Afghan event.
