For eighteen years, Downtown Hingham’s annual sidewalk sale has been a summer ritual for discerning shoppers and bargain hunters. It’s an opportunity to leisurely stroll from store to store to uncover the highly curated items shop owners are excited about and have worked hard to provide for their customers throughout the year.
A new addition to the fun weekend — that is set up similarly to outdoor markets in Europe — is Summerfest on Saturday July 29. Everyone in the community can celebrate the height of summer at a family-friendly block party with live music, food and a pop-up beer garden.
Local band favorites, the Aldous Collins Band and Gracie Grace and All The Good Boys will keep things hopping, while Clandestine Kitchen and Peel Pizza serve delicious food and Untold Brewing will offer its tried and true and latest brews.
“We are one of the fortunate communities to have such a beautiful location in every season and a true center of town with thriving businesses that know their customers personally,” said Lynn Barclay, executive director of the HDA. “The sidewalk sales and Summerfest are a great opportunity to enjoy the more laid back vibe of summer in Downtown, while picking up a few special items and changing it up from backyard barbecues to a ready-made fun gathering with friends.
The sidewalk sales will be ongoing from Thursday, July 27 through Saturday, July 29. On Saturday, Summerfest will kick off with music at 1:00 p.m. with the blues-inspired, soulful pop/rock of Gracie Grace and All The Good Boys until 2:15, followed by the upbeat indie, rock, reggae, soul of the Aldous Collins Band from 2:30-4:30.
“One of my greatest joys has been connecting with a strong and ever-growing South Shore music community, said Christina Jans, owner of AZ Studio Salon and Store and HDA member. “The level of talent and success of our South Shore scene has increased tremendously over the past couple of decades. As a result, I have taken a strong interest in sponsoring and supporting it since the variety of local music is so enjoyable and a catalyst for unity and compassion.”
Summerfest was generously sponsored by AZ Studio, Chel Bella, Beth McGrath, REALTOR with William Raveis, Mahi Gold, and the Hingham Downtown Association.
