Hingham Downtown Shops Celebrate the Class of 2020

When you finish high school, the main reward -- other than the knowledge that you are done, at least until the next round of school -- is getting together with classmates, teachers, friends and family members and taking the grand processional to collect that long-awaited diploma. This is a very unusual year for the class of 2020 due to all the social distancing mandates across the country so we wanted to do something special to recognize these graduates.

The class of 2020 and the downtown businesses and the Hingham Downtown Association partnered together to highlight all the seniors in Hingham including Hingham High School and our private school seniors. There are nearly 40 businesses participating featuring over 350 seniors.

Participating businesses will feature photos of the seniors with their first name and a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” These businesses stretch from lower North Street (Tosca) through Hingham Square (South Shore Bank) up Main Street (Atlantic Bagel) and down Water Street (White Magdelena, Absolutely Fit.)

The 2020 Class Parents noted, “We cannot thank you enough for all the businesses support and we look forward to the students, their parents, family, friends and neighbors to come down and walk through the downtown to admire our graduating seniors while observing social distance protocols. They truly are our future.”

“Graduation may look different, but it does not change how far you’ve come or how far you’ll go. Congratulations to the class of 2020 from all the businesses and the Hingham Downtown Association,” said Lynn Barclay, Executive Director of the Hingham Downtown Association.

When we asked Tamela Levin, owner of Acquire Good, why this project was important to her, she told the Anchor, "as a small business owner in Hingham, I really look forward to the moments that I am able to celebrate the community.  Having the Class of 2020 posters displayed in the windows of local businesses is one of the moments that really creates a sense of magic in this town.  This celebration allows us to recognize the seniors who have worked so hard and accomplished so much while also bringing a little bit of life back into the downtown.  Thank you to the town of Hingham and to the HDA for their efforts in making this project come to life.  Congratulations to the Class of 2020."
