As things return to normal with mask restrictions lifting and the July 4th parade now moving forward, it will be one more year before Fireworks light up the skies in Hingham Harbor.
The Hingham Lions and the ad-Hoc Harborworks Committee say it’s too late to secure the necessary permits needed to pull off a show this year and note that fundraising efforts had ceased during COVID.
“It’s unfortunate that we’re unable to host a show this summer but there is a lot of new energy on board with the new ‘Harborworks’ committee and we’re excited to move forward in 2022,” said Mark Casale, president of the Hingham Lions Club.
Janice Bosworth of the Lions Club notes that because the original date restrictions were going to be lifted on August 1, the committee did not apply for permits needed to host a show on July 4th.
With restrictions now lifted much earlier than anticipated, there is no way to secure the permits and funding needed in time to pull off an event.
The Lions have announced that they will host their traditional pancake breakfast the morning of the 4th and fundraising efforts for 2022 are already underway.
