New England Patriots Director of Player Personnel Matt Groh has been busy all year preparing for this week’s NFL Draft. Hingham High School Senior and Division 3 All State linebacker Will Griffin has been busy as well finishing his senior year and prepping to play football this Fall at Allegheny College.

What do Matt and Will have in common?

Not only do they both love the game of football, but they are both on “The List”

“The list” was a research project that involved input from eight individuals who coached Hingham Youth Football and /or had sons play Hingham Youth Football and/or Hingham High School football. To be included on the list, a player had to have played at least one year of Hingham Youth Football and/or one year of Hingham High School football then played at least one year on the college level.

When Matt’s father Al served as the Patriots Defensive Coordinator on Bill Parcells staff, Matt played two years of football at Hingham HS. When Al went to coach the NY Jets, Matt finished his high school career on Long Island before playing at Princeton University.

The list includes an impressive list of schools and is reflective of the great coaching the players received on both the youth and high school levels. The research prompted a further study of the current youth football coaching staffs and revealed that about half of the Hingham Youth Football coaches played college football. Dartmouth leads the way with 4 former players followed by two from Colby and one each from Amherst, Army West Point, Bates, Bentley, Brown, BU, Hamilton, Northeastern, St. Lawrence, Trinity, UNH, URI, University of Passau (Germany) and Williams.

The players’ list is as follows:
