Looking for something fun and impactful to round out your weekend? Join Girl Scout Troop 62304 at their Become Aware Fair Sunday afternoon!
This family-friendly event will feature tie blanket making for the Quincy Family Resource Center’s holiday gift drive, as well as other seasonal crafts and prizes. Representatives from the QFRC, Wellspring, Interfaith Social Services and Father Bill’s & Mainspring will be on hand to share the many ways you can help families in need in our region, including volunteer opportunities perfect for individuals and groups. There also will be materials for South Shore Habitat for Humanity, which is developing plans for two new houses in Hingham.
The idea for the Become Aware Fair came from a troop of Hingham 6th graders. Lindsay Bellinger, Margaret D’Souza, Kristi Fickes, Kate Fleming, Emma Lee, Caroline MacDonald, Paige Moore, Ava Parker, Gabriella Sacco, Sydney Schultz and Maggie Towle are working on their Bronze Award, one of the highest awards in Girl Scouts. The issue they chose to address was family poverty, recognizing that there are so many in our area who are struggling financially.
The girls set out to help alleviate pressures on local families in need and to educate friends and neighbors on the many ways that they too can help. They conducted a school supply drive over the summer, spoke with representatives from a range of service organizations on the South Shore, and now will conclude their project with this special open house. "We agree that it is unfortunate to see other families with kids not able to have the right things to stay warm and safe during the cold season. It would be greatly appreciated by all of us and the organizations helping if you and your family could attend. Happy Holidays!"
The Become Aware Fair is this Sunday afternoon at the Hingham Girl Scout House (26 Burr Road) from 2:00pm – 3:30pm. Please bring a nonperishable food item for the Hingham Food Pantry.
